Ever feel like the odds are against you in business?

Happy Tuesday Confident Lady,

This week we had an awesome guest on the podcast, Cassandra Bodzak who spoke about overcoming the fear of "no one has done what I want to do so odd are against me". Today I want to briefly dive into this lie with you, as I know so many of us have felt this way at one point or another.

Here is my word of wisdom for you ---> Just because it hasn't been done, doesn't mean it can't be done.

Flashback to the launch of my first business. I was a twenty something social worker on the verge of burnout from my agency job-- underpaid, under appreciated, with little control of how much impact I could make. I would fantasize having my own therapy practice. I would imagine what it would feel like to be able to give my clients my undivided attention and quality care. With the politics of the agency this just wasn't possible. I so badly wanted to take the reigns and do it MY way.

So I started my business.

And even though I did it, I felt the odds were against me. I didn't know any other twenty something female in private practice, let alone owning her own business. I felt I was reinventing the wheel and unsure whether this would actually work--but I gave it a shot anyway.

Once I grew my business to match my 9-5 salary (let's just say in LESS than three months of opening) I knew it was time to get out of the agency. People thought I was crazy. There was snickering and condescending comments. They just weren't thinking big enough.

So how did I press on even when it appeared the odds were against me?

1. Reminded myself of the dream. "Even though the odds are against me, WHY am I doing this? What do I have to lose? WHEN (not if) this actually works, how will my life and others lives change because of my bravery?"

2. Repeat daily mantras. "Big things weren't born out of comfort zones. I am capable of doing what I put my mind to. If your dreams don't scare you, they aren't big enough." Make a list of your and then grab your free snail mail affirmation card with all my favorites HERE.

3. Lastly, I turned off the noise. I stopped asking others for their opinion or approval. I only shared my dream with the people who got it. I accepted that not everyone has to understand and learned to trust ME more than ever.

Just because your dream doesn't seem to exist in your world right now, doesn't mean it can't be done. I believe that any idea with passion behind it WILL succeed and the best, most thought out strategic ideas with zero heart will fail. Are you leading with heart? You can't go wrong if this is your path sister!
