Happy Tuesday Confident Lady,
This week we had an awesome guest on the podcast, Katie Fleming who spoke about overcoming the fear of "Not being enough". Today I want to briefly dive into this lie with you, as I know so many of us have felt this way at one point or another.
Here is my word of wisdom for you ---> You are smarter today than you were yesterday. AND you have plenty of knowledge within TODAY to succeed and do the thing.
In my now 20+ podcast interviews, the #1 underlying fear that continues coming up for these incredible leaders is the lie of not being ENOUGH. It's linked to worthiness. "No matter what, no matter my education level, years of experience, age, accolades, I still don't feel enough".
I want to tell you today that you are enough exactly where you are. You don't need the thing that you think you need in order to feel more worthy or qualified. I can't tell you how many times women I work with come to me early on saying "I think I need this certification or education or qualification in order to really stand out or move ahead". And here is what I tell them: if you don't feel enough right where you are today, you will actually feel even less than once you have the thing you think you need. I bet this sounds unbelievable, but trust me it's true.
Sister, you need to work at feeling enough TODAY as you already are and once you've gotten there, if you still feel like you WANT to do the thing to advance you, then go and do it. I see so many women who are not feeling enough, go and achieve what they think that they NEED, and then feel even less worthy because they see that the achievement didn't fix the thoughts of unworthiness. And now they are left with more debt, with more time spent distracted, and unfocused from the ultimate goal. So I bet you're wondering how it’s possible to get out of this mindset?
Here are a TWO quick tips that have worked for my clients:
1. Begin to build your confidence today. Ask yourself what you are good at. Ask others what you're good at. And then remember, just because you're good at that thing, doesn't mean everyone else is! What feels so common and innate to you, could be a HUGE struggle for someone else. Saying NO for me today is a piece of cake--I don't have to think twice. But to a new client, it could rule and consume their life. Just because it's easy for me, doesn't mean it's not important. Make sense? What do YOU know and understand that others don't?
2. Repeat this mantra "All that I need today is already within". You have more than enough information today to succeed at something. Is it really worth going and getting one more degree to find that your answers have been within all along? I don't want to dissuade anyone wanting to go to school or go back to school from going, but if it's linked to your worthiness, it's worth exploring with someone.
