This has been a post on my heart for some time. I shared with you all that my 2018 word has been SIMPLIFY. And guys, you know when you chose your word, BEWARE, you will be CHALLENGED beyond belief. The first three months (gosh where does time go?!) I have literally gone back to the basics. And today I want to share with you how exactly I did this in case YOU would like to add some simplicity to your life!
We often think if doesn't feel good it must not be right. Let me explain this because I do always say "only do what feels good" and don't want you to get the wrong idea. I look at "feeling good" from two different perspectives in business.
1. There is the "this is so hard. I want to pass out when I think about speaking in front of hundreds of people but I know I want to do it"
2. And then there is the "speaking totally isn't for me. My people connect through writing. It feels so good to be confident in this and just deliver writing to them and anything else would be out of alignment".
The words SACRIFICE + INVESTING tend to bring up all types of feels for many. From fear, to excitement, to yearning, to intimidation, etc. First what I want to say is investing should ONLY feel good. And second, if you want to be a true CEO of your business, you need to work your mindset so that it DOES feel good. Now why? Because the only way to grow + scale your business AND create ease /flow within your business is to make SACRIFICES + INVEST. I know, you probably don’t want to hear the hard truth, but tough love never killed anyone. Let me start by sharing my story of sacrifice + investing.
Back in the fall I asked you guys to submit some topics you’d like me to teach on. This one was a theme that came up for several of you -----> Whether you are in your first or tenth year of business you know exactly what I’m talking about. You could wake up one morning feeling down in the dumps about how your business is {NOT} going, to onboarding a new client + celebrating, to having a long term client decide not to re-sign your monthly retainer, and being back in the dumps! These are what I call “the waves of entrepreneurship”.
I am currently writing you from a retreat house in warm and sunny South Carolina with my Online Business Manager. February seems to be our month (the last THREE years) that we get together IRL to work on business.
And as much as I'd like to say we've been planning tons of new and exciting things for you guys in 2018, we've actually been CLEARING the clutter.
I thought back to February 28th 2015 and remember it so vividly. I was two months out of my 9-5, had just paid for my very first BIG business investment (B-School), and was about to pick up my new car AND something I had gifted myself for achieving my goal of leaving my 9-5........TURBO! Having a puppy was something I had always dreamed of and it was about to happen🐶
